What we do

Most people who need tax resolution did not set out to owe money. A business had a bad year, a spouse died, a return got missed and then missing the next one felt easier than admitting the first. Then the letters start, and the letters are worse than the debt.

The first thing we do is find out what is actually true. What years are unfiled, what the IRS says you owe, and what the North Carolina Department of Revenue says separately, because the state runs its own collections and does not stop because you sorted out the federal side. Very often the assessed number is higher than the real number, because when you do not file, the IRS files a version for you that gives you no deductions.

Then we deal with it. Unfiled returns get prepared and filed. If there is a balance left, there are established programs for paying it over time, for asking the IRS to reconsider penalties, and in some situations for settling for less than the full amount. Which of those fits depends on your income, your assets and your circumstances, and we will tell you honestly which ones you are a candidate for rather than promising an outcome nobody can promise.

What tax resolution includes

The full scope, in plain terms. Ask about any one of these on its own or all of them together.

Unfiled and back tax returns

Missing years prepared and filed, oldest first. Filing is what stops the problem growing, and it usually lowers the balance the IRS assessed on your behalf.

IRS notices and letters

Bring us the envelope, opened or not. We tell you what it actually says, what the deadline is, and what happens if it passes.

Installment agreements

A payment plan you can genuinely afford, set up properly, so collections stop while you pay it down.

Offer in compromise

The program that settles a debt for less than the full balance. It has real qualifying rules and most people do not meet them, so we assess honestly before anyone pays for a filing.

Penalty relief

Penalties often make up a large part of what you owe. Where there is a reasonable cause or a clean prior history, we ask for them to be removed.

Liens, levies and garnishment

When a levy is already taking wages or a bank account, this is the urgent lane. Getting into compliance is what gives you standing to have it released.

Audit representation

We deal with the examiner, prepare what they ask for, and keep the audit to the year and the issue actually under review.

North Carolina Department of Revenue matters

State notices, state balances and state garnishment run on their own track. We handle NCDOR alongside the federal side rather than leaving you to it.

Payroll tax problems

Unpaid payroll tax is the fastest-moving debt a business can have, because part of it is money withheld from employees. It gets dealt with first.

How it works

The first conversation is about facts, not paperwork. You tell us roughly what happened and what you have received, and we tell you what we need to see the whole picture.

Then we pull the record. With authorisation we can see what the IRS actually has on file: which years are missing, what has been assessed, what stage collections is at. That is usually the first time the situation stops being a guess.

With the real numbers in front of us we lay out the options that apply to you, what each one realistically involves, and what it does not do. You choose. From there we prepare and file what is missing, put the agreed resolution in front of the IRS or the state, and handle the correspondence. You stop opening the letters. We open them.

Tax Resolution FAQs

I have not filed in several years. Is it too late?

No. Filing late is far better than not filing, and it is the step that stops the problem growing. When you do not file, the IRS can file a substitute return for you that allows none of your deductions, so the balance it shows is often higher than what you actually owe. Preparing the real returns frequently lowers it.

Can you settle my tax debt for less than I owe?

Sometimes, through the offer in compromise programme. It has real qualifying rules based on your income, your assets and your ability to pay, and most people who ask do not meet them. We look at your actual position and tell you whether you are a candidate before anyone spends money on a filing. Be careful of anyone who promises a settlement before seeing your numbers.

The IRS is taking money from my paycheck. What now?

That is the urgent lane, so call rather than emailing. A levy or garnishment is usually released once you are back in compliance and there is an agreement in place, so the fastest route out is filing what is missing and getting a resolution in front of them quickly.

Do you handle North Carolina state tax problems too?

Yes. The North Carolina Department of Revenue runs its own assessments and its own collections, and sorting out the federal side does nothing about a state balance. We deal with both rather than fixing half of it.

How much of what I owe is penalties?

Often a large share of it, because failure to file and failure to pay penalties accrue separately and interest runs on top. Where there is a reasonable cause or a clean filing history behind you, penalty relief can be requested, and that alone can change the size of the problem.

Will you tell the IRS things I would rather they did not know?

We work for you. What you tell us stays between us, and we will tell you plainly what your options are, including the ones you may not want to hear. What we will not do is put something in front of the IRS that is not true.
